Di Meglio maintains form in early Saturday session

Having dominated Friday´s 125cc proceedings in both wet and dry conditions, title-chasing Mike di Meglio was in good form again on Saturday morning at Phillip Island.

Saturday´s action at the 2008 Australian Grand Prix commenced with 125cc World Championship leader Mike di Meglio (Ajo Motorsport) setting the quickest time of the weekend so far in the single cylinder class.

The Friday pace setter beat his best time in the dry from Friday morning by well over half a second, with a 1´37.820 lap keeping him ahead of second fastest FP2 participant Bradley Smith (Polaris World) by 0.023s.

Under blue skies and on a perfectly dry track at Phillip Island Stefan Bradl (Grizzly Gas Kiefer Racing), Sandro Cortese (Emmi - Caffe Latte) and Nicolas Terol (Jack & Jones WRB) were also all in the top five, though only Di Meglio and Smith went round under the 1´38 mark.

Joan Olive (Belson Derbi), Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Aspar), Dominique Aegerter (Ajo Motorsport), Raffaele de Rosa (Onde 2000 KTM) and Scott Redding (Blusens Aprilia Junior) rounded off the top ten - De Rosa being the only non-Derbi or Aprilia rider to feature amongst the front runners.

Meanwhile, there were crashes without serious consequence for Michael Ranseder, Danny Webb, Simone Corsi and Aussie wildcard Jake Horne.
