Kallio sets early pace in 250cc Sepang showdown

Kallio sets early pace in 250cc Sepang showdown

The top spot in the first 250cc practice session went to Finnish rider Mika Kallio.

Mika Kallio set out his stall for the 250cc Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix with the fastest lap of that category´s opening Free Practice session. The Finnish rider put down a 2´08.084 lap to put himself a tenth of a second ahead of Alvaro Bautista -like Kallio a contender for the quarter litre crown this year.

The Red Bull KTM rider´s teammate Hiroshi Aoyama was third quickest in the morning run, the top three in the session separated by less than half a second. Aleix Espargaro, Mattia Pasini and Marco Simoncelli –the Metis Gilera rider who, barring a disaster, will either clinch or draw closer to the 250cc title this weekend- completed the top six in under a second slower than Kallio´s marker.

At his `home´ race, Thai PTT Sag´s Ratthapark Wilairot continued his sophomore spectacle with the seventh quickest lap of the morning, whilst Roberto Locatelli, Julian Simon and Fabrizio Lai also made their presence felt in the top ten.
