Wilairot pleased with times so far at `home´ GP

At what is considered to be his home Grand Prix, Thai 250cc rider Ratthapark Wilairot has made a good start as he goes in search of his best career result this weekend in Malaysia.

After ending up fifth on the provisional 250cc grid on Friday at the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Thai Honda PTT SAG´s Ratthapark Wilairot was in a good mood when he spoke to motogp.com.

Determined to improve on his personal best results at the event closest to his homeland, the 20 year-old Thai rider achieved his best ever provisional qualifying position on Friday, before telling motogp.com, `Today was incredible because in free practice and qualifying we worked really well. It was a great day. The bike and the setting were good. I was going fast right from the beginning and I have more confidence with the bike.´

Asked to assess his own progress in terms of performance levels he replied, `My knowledge of the bike is better than it used to be. We are improving. The team and me personally are getting towards our best. We are getting quicker and we are trying to go fast, like the top riders.´

The Barcelona-based competitor will attempt to confirm his good form in the second quarter litre class qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, as he pushes to beat his best Grand Prix result of eighth – which he managed at Shanghai and Misano this year.

Looking ahead to what will be his third full year of World Championship participation in 2009 he added, `I will ride again in 250cc next year. I think many of the top 125cc riders will come up and a lot of the best 250cc riders will stay so I think it will be hard, but I will stay with Honda.´
