125cc runner-up spot to be decided at season-concluding race

125cc runner-up spot to be decided at season-concluding race

Gabor Talmacsi and Simone Corsi will be targeting second place in the 125c World Championship at Valencia this Sunday.

Still without a confirmed ride in the 250cc class for the upcoming season, 125cc World Champion Mike di Meglio is looking to further convince a team to sign him up with another positive result in Eastern Spain. The Frenchman was just pipped to the podium in Sepang, ending a two-race podium run that had culminated in his title win.

Gabor Talmacsi holds the advantage in the fight for the runner-up spot following his victory in Malaysia, six points ahead of Simone Corsi and nineteen ahead of Stefan Bradl. The Hungarian finished on the podium at Valencia last year when he clinched the World Championship, and will be bowing out of the 125cc series at the end of the year in order to move up to 250cc.

Nicolas Terol and Joan Olive are two of the home riders with an eye on the win in the final round of the year, with Olive the only member of the top six not to have tasted victory in his Grand Prix career.

Also chasing the win will be British rider Bradley Smith, second in Sepang and one of the fastest riders of preseason testing in Valencia. The Polaris World rider will be participating in his final race for his current team before joining up with the Bancaja Aprilia outfit.

This weekend´s Grand Prix will also serve as a farewell ride for Spaniard Pablo Nieto, who retires from competition after the Sunday showdown.
