Capirossi hoping to add to Valencia podium tally

Capirossi hoping to add to Valencia podium tally

Italian veteran Loris Capirossi and his Australian teammate Chris Vermeulen head into the last race of the year looking to sign off for winter on a high.

Having raced in all nine of MotoGP´s visits to Valencia Loris Capirossi is looking forward to returning to the Spanish track for this weekend´s season finale, with three podiums to his name at the Ricardo Tormo circuit.

With three solid top ten finishes under his belt in the flyaway visits to Japan, Australia and Malaysia, Capirossi is in decent form at present as he heads to the track where he was third in the 250cc race in 1999, third again in the MotoGP contest in 2003 and the runner-up two years ago in the premier class race.

Previewing the last round of the year Capirossi said, `I think Valencia will be good for us because it is not really a quick track and our bike is good for handling and braking - so we hope to go really well.

`We understand that the weather can sometimes be very difficult there because it can be quite cold, but I believe we can go really fast in Valencia,´ continued the Italian. `It is the last race and is a good opportunity to start working on how we want to continue next year.´

Fifth placed last time out at Valencia in his last race for Ducati, Capirossi was followed across the line by his current teammate Chris Vermeulen – who despite a difficult time on track of late is similarly positive about this weekend´s GP.

`Valencia is a great circuit and it suits our bike well with it not having very long straights,´ Vermeulen commented. `The Suzuki works well on this tight and twisty type of circuit and last year we were very quick there. I am really looking forward to going back. Hopefully we can stand on the podium one more time this year, because that is the plan and I really think it is possible!´
