Brivio: `Laguna Seca was the turning point´

Reflecting on the 2008 season, Fiat Yamaha Team Manager Davide Brivio singles out U.S. race as day the title tide turned.

In a year full of highlights for Fiat Yamaha, Team Manager Davide Brivio has identified Laguna Seca as the scene of the team´s key moment of 2008. Victory for Valentino Rossi ended a three-race winning streak for Casey Stoner, and began the Italian´s own run of five successive wins on the way to a sixth MotoGP title and team honours for the factory outfit.

`Laguna Seca will remain in the memory for a long time as the `mark´ of this season,´ said Brivio on reviewing the past eighteen races. `It turned the tide after Casey´s victories; we had been worried but were able to beat him. It was probably the most exciting moment of the season.´

Another special victory for Rossi came at Shanghai, his first win on Bridgestone tyres and his first since falling short in the 2007 final standings to Stoner.

`The first win of the year, in China, was important,´ recalls Brivio. `It was the first since the difficult times of the previous two seasons.

`Overall it was a great year; nine victories and sixteen podiums says it all. It was unbelievable how we were able to come back after two years without the title. Thanks to the mechanics and the engineers, and most of all to Valentino, who did a great job over the winter and throughout the season.´
