Elias to delay leg plate removal

Elias to delay leg plate removal

Spanish rider Toni Elias will have surgery on his leg after the November 26th-27th MotoGP Official Test in Jerez.

Toni Elias´ name has been added to the list of riders set to undergo surgery before the end of the year, with an operation on his leg in the pipeline before the testing embargo comes into place.

The Spaniard, who returns to Fausto Gresini´s satellite Honda team after a year with Ducati, will go under the knife after the upcoming Jerez test to remove a steel plate inserted during 2007. Originally planned for immediately after his comeback Honda test in Valencia last week, a decision was made to postpone surgery until after another outing in his homeland.

`We wanted to take the things out of my leg just after this test, but we decided to wait until after Jerez because it will be safer that way,´ says Elias. `Then I will have two months for recovery and be able to arrive in Malaysia at more than 100%´

At said Sepang test Elias will have the full factory RC212V at his disposal, in accordance with his promised top-of-the-range package for 2009. Next year´s spring valve satellite bike, developed with the help of departed rider Shinya Nakano, is the machine currently being put through its paces by the 25 year-old.

`For Valencia and Jerez I am riding with Nakano´s bike, and in Malaysia I will have the 2009 bike with everything included, which will be good. The pneumatic valve engine, a new frame… but for the moment I am happy with what I have,´ he concluded.
