Poncharal: `Next year will be easier for Toseland´

Poncharal: `Next year will be easier for Toseland´

Tech3 Yamaha chief assesses 2008 campaign, after satellite outfit place fourth in Team standings.

The first year of the Colin Edwards- James Toseland Tech3 Yamaha lineup, one which will continue in 2009, was by and large a positive one for Herve Poncharal´s satellite team. A new venture for both the longtime factory team rider and the talented newcomer, the outfit claimed podiums and front row starts en route to fourth place in the Team World Championship, a particularly strong result when taking into consideration the struggles of recent seasons.

Team Principal Poncharal was happy with the overall performance of his two riders, and opined after the final race of the season that things could get even better for Toseland in his sophomore season.

`Next year for sure it will be a lot easier for James. He knows the team and the tracks now,´ said the Frenchman of the former two-time superbike champion, who switches Crew Chiefs with Edwards for his second year in the series.

`We will have closer and better competition next year with the tyre situation, things like there being no qualifiers, and hopefully James can take advantage of that.´

Whilst Toseland is clearly being groomed as a star of the future, his Texan teammate was the rider to take the team´s best results in a resurgent year. Edwards gave a particular highlight to those decked out in blue and yellow at Le Mans, as Poncharal (who had revealed that his American charge had predicted victory before his podium finish) explains.

`Two podiums –one in France at our home race- and a pole position in China are things that will stick in the memory. I believe that it has been a good season, coming from a difficult 2007. From that to finishing fourth in the team standings, ahead of two factory teams is a good result, although like everybody we had our ups and downs.´
