Corsi: `I would like to go up to 250cc as World Champion´

Corsi: `I would like to go up to 250cc as World Champion´

As Simone Corsi reviewed the 2008 season with he was unable to hide his obvious disappointment at missing out on the 125cc title.

Simone Corsi will be one of the hot favourites for the single cylinder crown next year, having finished second in the title race to Mike di Meglio in 2008, a result which left a bitter taste in his mouth despite being by far the best of his career.

`I still feel pretty sad about missing out on the title to be honest´, admits the Roman rider. `I mean overall things were good, I won four races, I got seven podiums, but the aim was to get the title. Anyway, it was the best campaign of my career and I see it as something that puts me in a great position for next year.´

The 2008 season saw Corsi finally come of age after four previous 125cc campaigns and an unsuccessful year in the 250cc class in 2005. As one of the frontrunners in the smaller category he had offers to move back up to 250cc for the forthcoming season, but he will remain in 125cc in 2009 with the Jack & Jones WRB - Pons Racing Team, with the objective of fighting for the title again.

The Italian continued, `There were offers from both Aprilia and Honda to go up, but I preferred to stay with Sito Pons. I´m happy to be staying put, especially with the same team, and I want to achieve what I missed out on this year.´

`I would like to go up to 250cc as World Champion and if I had won the 125 title this year I´m sure I´d have made the move up. Now I need to focus on doing a good job in 2009,´ said the 21 year-old.

`(Mike) Di Meglio and (Gabor) Talmacsi have been promoted to the 250cc bikes, but there are still a lot of good riders in 125, starting with my teammate (Nico Terol), who will have an official RSA. (Julian) Simon is another one, he was riding well in Valencia last week. Anyway, I just have to concentrate on myself and getting the best out of the package that I´ll have.´
