Paddock Press: Ryder on Hopkins´ 2008 season

Commentator blames injury and uncompetitive bike for Hopkins´ disappointing 2008 season in first of journalist review series.

In the first of a series of season reviews from some of the MotoGP paddock journalists, veteran motorcycle racing commentator Julian Ryder looks back over John Hopkins´ 2008 season. The Anglo-American´s troubled season is put down to injury and an underdeveloped bike by Ryder, who expects better things from Hopkins in 2009.

`John started the season with a completely new bike, and basically with one leg after his testing crash at Phillip Island. Kawasaki had thought that in previous seasons the bike had been better than the riders that they had riding it, and Hopkins´ job was to show just how good it was,´ says Ryder.

`Unfortunately, the Kawasaki wasn´t up to the job.´

Paddock Press reviews for all of last year´s MotoGP riders will be published on motogp.com throughout the winter.
