Cortese looks forward to working with Ajo Motorsport

German 125cc competitor Sandro Cortese is looking ahead to working with his new employers Ajo Motorsport and believes he will be suited to the mentality of the team.

Looking to take things up a level in terms of competitiveness with a move to Ajo Motorsport for the 2009 season, Sandro Cortese is hoping for regular rostrum finishes next year after four steady campaigns of improvement in the 125cc World Championship.

The 2008 campaign was a huge success for Ajo Motorsport in 125cc with French rider Mike di Meglio causing a big surprise as he earned the team their first ever World title. Di Meglio now moves up to 250cc riding, with Mapfre Aspar, and Cortese comes into the team as his replacement.

Having finished eighth in the 2008 final standings with Emmi Caffe Latte, his first top ten championship result since becoming a full-time Grand Prix rider in 2005, the 18 year-old German with a distinctly Italian name is looking forward to starting work with his new team and is confident that he will fit in nicely with the Ajo Motorsport way of racing.

Comparing the team to others in the class, Cortese said, `I think it is completely different. I had an Italian team this year, and although I haven´t worked with Aki yet because we have not tested, I have known him for a long time as a friend. Just from the outside I can see that they are really quiet and they work really hard. The Italians and the other European guys work hard, but it´s different, the mentality is different to the Finnish.´

`It is not in a bad way, it is just the way things are in Italy and Spain. Sometimes it is hard to understand though because I am German and our mentality is more like Finnish. I just sit down quietly and think about what we can do to improve,´ he added.

When asked about his 2009 aspirations, Cortese replied, `There have been two times now where I was less than one tenth of a second from the podium, and there were a lot of fifth places so I think this year the podium just was not going to happen! Next year I will be looking to get on the podium at each race, that is my aim.´
