250cc duel continues in Brno with Simoncelli on top

As in the first MotoGP session in the Czech Republic, the top two in the 250cc classification took an early lead in their opening practice run at Brno on Friday morning. Likewise, the series leader was the man heading the timesheet ahead of his immediate rival.

Said leader is Marco Simoncelli, the winner of the German round of the quarter litre category series and the form rider in the class. The Metis Gilera rider took his RSA machine –debuted at Sachsenring- round in 2´03.149 for a 0.048 advantage over Mika Kallio, as the pair resumed their duel for supremacy.

Alvaro Bautista is aiming for his fifth consecutive podium this weekend, and showed some early form onboard the Mapfre Aspar RSA Aprilia to come in third quickest. Alex Debon and Hector Barbera –also using the factory version of the Aprilia machine- were fourth and fifth, respectively, whilst Simoncelli´s teammate Roberto Locatelli rounded off the top six.

Thomas Luthi was the first rider more than a second slower than timesheet topper Simoncelli, whilst Hiroshi Aoyama, Mattia Pasini and Julian Simon also made their mark on the top ten. Home rider Lukas Pesek was fourteenth.
