250cc podium finishers explain Donington finale
Wind, pace and a risky Marco Simoncelli overtaking manoeuvre were all on the agenda when the 250cc podium finishers faced the cameras.
Mika Kallio – Race Winner
`During the race I expected a chance to win, but before the race maybe not. We had lots of settings problems on Friday and Saturday, and this morning the settings didn't work that well. There were no big changes for the race, we just made a good start and quickly went up to third. I caught Bautista and Simoncelli when they were in front, improving tenths by tenths and a lot faster than them in some places. They made a mistake at the end that made things easier for me.´
Marco Simoncelli – Second Place
`Of course it was a very difficult race, as there was a lot of wind. On the first few laps it was very difficult to take the right rhythm. Lap by lap I tried to improve my pace, and went faster and faster. With two laps to go I tried to pass, but broke too late. I went wide, and I´m sorry for Alvaro and because I wanted to win.´
Alvaro Bautista – Third Place
`My opinion on the incident is that it´s not the best way to pass a rider, nor the best place. I kept the line in the middle when it was windy early on, and felt a lot of movement in the bike. However, lap by lap I got more confident. Two laps from the end Marco passed me in a very strange way, and after that it was impossible to catch Kallio and him. I´m happy for the podium, but not with the pass that Simoncelli did to me.´
