Ajo Interwetten tune up for 2009 success
The 125cc 2008 title winners Ajo Motorsport have officially announced a new sponsorship deal and a new rider line-up ahead of the forthcoming season.
The team which Mike di Meglio represented en route to his surprise 2008 125cc title win, Ajo Motorsport, have been renamed Ajo Interwetten for the 2009 campaign.
Meanwhile, with the Frenchman moving up to the 250cc category, German rider Sandro Cortese comes into the Ajo squad to join up with Swiss youngster Dominique Aegerter, who continues with the team.
The Finland-based Ajo group, headed by former World Championship rider Aki Ajo, will continue to run Derbi machinery this year, with their first test taking place alongside several other 250cc and 125cc teams in Jerez from 26th to 28th January.
An enthusiastic Cortese looked forward to the season ahead, saying, `Of course I am very happy to be with the Ajo Interwetten team. I have known Aki for some years and he has helped a little before, so now finally to have this chance to work with him and his winning team I feel quite confident for the coming campaign.´
His team-mate Aegerter added, `For me it is really good to continue with the team for this season. I feel at home here and we know each other well. We know how to work together, so I´m looking forward to the year ahead, and of course I will try to improve during the season as we did last year.´
Contributing his own thoughts as leader of the project Aki Ajo stated, `I´m very happy again with our riders, Domi did great job with us last year, improving his game throughout the season. I´ve known Sandro for some time now and I´m happy we get this chance to work and see what we can achieve together. Our riders, and the whole team, are motivated and ready for the coming challenges.´
