Axel Pons undergoes successful surgery after CEV crash

Spanish 125cc rider Axel Pons, who made his debut in the World Championship this season in Jerez, has undergone successful surgery for the injuries suffered in a crash last Sunday at the circuit. The young rider, son of former twice 250cc World Champion Sito Pons, had been competing in the third round of the CEV Buckler Spanish Championship.

The operation was carried out in Barcelona under the guidance of Doctors Josep M. Vilarrubias and Ignacio Ginebrada, and served to treat fractures received to both of his tibias, as well as a ligament rupture of his right knee.

The Jack&Jones WRB rider will continue his stay in the Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (Intensive Care Unit) until medical authorisation is given to operate on a further fracture, this time in Pons´ pelvis.
