Barbera pins fifth place finish blame on defective tyre

Attempting to keep up with the 250cc frontrunners, fifth place and a faulty tyre in Assen did not come at the most opportune moment for Hector Barbera.

Team Toth Aprilia´s Hector Barbera was powerless to stop the 250cc podium finishers making an escape at the A-Style TT Assen, courtesy of a rear tyre problem that lasted the duration of the race. The Spaniard had looked to be in a prime position to challenge for victory when he assumed the second spot on the grid, but had to settle for fifth place as the chequered flag fell.
`I noticed a lot of vibration right from the opening lap, above all in the front end. This was due to a rear tyre defect,´ analysed Barbera. `I gave my all, but anytime I hit the brakes I had the same difficulty. The worst part is that I didn't realise why it was happening until late in the race.
`It hit my confidence as well, braking so much earlier than in practice. I wasn´t able to fight for fourth on the final corners,´ he lamented, before drawing the positive from the situation.
`I brought the bike home and picked up some World Championship points, which I hope will count for something at the end of the season.´ concluded Barbera, currently sixth in the quarter-litre standings.
