Bridgestone acknowledge Indianapolis difficulties after latest win

Tyre manufacturer Bridgestone added to their win haul for 2008 at Indianpolis, courtesy of another victory for Valentino Rossi. The Japanese factory still have the chance at equaling or bettering their win record from last year, with four races remaining on the calendar.

The latest win was certainly one of the more challenging ones for Bridgestone, who could not get any of their other riders on the podium as the track conditions changed. Tohru Ubukata, Motorcycle Race Tyre Development Manager, explained the difficulties encountered on Sunday afternoon.

`I am pleased with the result of today´s race but it was not a straight-forward afternoon. Most of our riders opted to use medium specification front and rear wet tyres based on the track conditions at the beginning of the race, which were still very wet after the lunchtime rain,´ stated Ubukata.

`Generally the performance level of these tyres in the changing conditions was quite good, but some of our riders did experience problems during the race which prevented them from making their way through the field. Our competitors have once again shown a good competitiveness in wet conditions and it was another relatively balanced result overall. We now look forward to Motegi where we expect another closely-fought battle in our home race.´

It was precisely at Motegi where Bridgestone sealed their first MotoGP World Championship last year, courtesy of Casey Stoner in a race where they also took the win through Loris Capirossi.
