Bridgestone explain 125cc wildcard tyre arrangement
Thomas Scholz from Bridgestone explains how the Japanese tyre manufacturers came to be supplying Abbink Bos Racing wildcards Joey Litjens and Jasper Iwema with their rubber at Assen.
With Dunlop now supplying all the full-time riders in the smaller World Championship classes and Bridgestone now fully focussed on their MotoGP project, Dutch wildcards Joey Litjens and Jasper Iwema are the exceptions to the rule on Japanese rubber in the single cylinder class at the A-Style TT Assen.
Bridgestone´s Thomas Scholz has explained to motogp.com how the firm supply 125cc competitors in the All-Japan national series and also provide the tyres for Abbink Bos Racing in the German national championship, in which Litjens and Iwema compete on Seel-Honda machinery.
`We did 125cc Grand Prix tyres until 2003 and then we stopped to concentrate on our MotoGP activities, but we have still kept a relationship going with the 125cc teams,´ said Scholz. `We still produce 125cc tyres in Japan and we use them in the All-Japan championship where we are very successful.´
`Two years ago we increased our relationship with the team Seel Racing who produce their own kits on Honda based engines. They decided to enter the German championship on the Bridgestone tyres and they are sponsored by a big company from the Netherlands called Abbink, so that is the basis of the relationship.´
