Brno – MotoGP Sunday Guide
The grid positions are analysed for the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky premier class contest.
- The top five places on the grid are taken by five different manufacturers.
- Casey Stoner is starting from pole at the sixth successive race, which is the longest sequence of successive poles during the four-stroke MotoGP era. Stoner has finished on the podium on the last eight occasions he has started from pole – a run which includes six victories.
- Valentino Rossi starts from the front row for the seventh time in 2008. Rossi will be aiming for his fourth win in the premier-class class at Brno.
- John Hopkins starts from the front row for the first time since he was second on the grid in China last year. This is the first front row start of the year for Kawasaki. Hopkins finished second last year at Brno – his best ever Grand Prix result.
- Chris Vermeulen will be aiming to become the first rider to have three successive podium finishes on Suzuki´s four-stroke MotoGP machine.
- Alex de Angelis is starting from his best grid position since moving up to the MotoGP class.
- Anthony West is starting from his best grid position since he was fifth fastest qualifier in Malaysia last year. Kawasaki are the only manufacturer to have two riders qualified on the front two rows.
- Randy de Puniet is the top qualifier from the riders using Michelin tyres.
- Shinya Nakano and Valentino Rossi are the only two riders in the MotoGP class to score points at every race in 2008.
- Loris Capirossi is starting at his 276th Grand Prix event, equalling the record currently held by Alex Barros. Capirossi has finished in the top six nine times from his ten races in the premier-class at Brno, including a victory two years ago.
- Marco Melandri´s eleventh place on the grid is his best qualifying result since joining the Ducati factory team.
- Dani Pedrosa will be starting from his lowest grid position since he was 16th fastest qualifier in his third appearance on a MotoGP machine at the GP of Turkey in 2006.
