Brno receives IRTA Best Grand Prix trophy
The Brno circuit was officially presented with the IRTA trophy for `Best Grand Prix´ of 2007 at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky on Friday.
In a presentation attended by IRTA President Herve Poncharal and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta at the Brno media centre on Friday the CEO of the Czech circuit Ivana Ulmanova accepted the IRTA award for ‘Best Grand Prix' of 2007 on behalf of all of her staff.
The winner was voted for by IRTA members and the result was announced in March of this year, with this weekend's visit to the Czech Republic seen as the fitting moment for the official presentation to take place.
The World Championship´s trip to the Central European country is a highly popular date on the MotoGP calendar with Brno recognised for its all-round qualities.
The first of Brno´s three IRTA Awards was received in 1999, with a second following in 2004 - and since then it Brno has been a permanent fixture in the organisation´s annual top three.
Only Mugello has had more success, with four `Best Grand Prix´ prizes, whilst the 2007 triumph puts the Czech circuit level with fellow three-time winners Valencia and Catalunya.
Poncharal sang the praises of the event and circuit saying, `We are welcomed with open arms every time we come to Brno and it is a deserving winner of the IRTA `Best Grand Prix´ of 2007 award. The race organisation is excellent and the track, which was opened in its modern form in 1987, is very safe with lots of run-off. The facilities set the standard for all circuits in the World Championship.´
