Having started in eighth place on the Motegi grid Randy de Puniet was hoping for better than twelfth in the race on Sunday, even though he was battling against the odds with an injured wrist.

Randy de Puniet - twelfth

`Honestly we expected a better race here. I made a good start but in the first corner Andrea Dovizioso braked too late and went a bit wide. I tried to pass him on the inside but some riders overtook me because I did not have enough corner speed. So I lost few places and finished the first lap in fourteenth place. After that I tried to remain focused but the bike started to slide. However with four laps to go I caught John Hopkins and James Toseland, but it was impossible for me to pass them.´
