Alex Debon´s win in France was the first of his long World Championship career and took him up to third place in the current 250cc general standings.

Experienced Spanish rider Alex Debon spent a long time waiting for last weekend´s 250cc victory at the Alice Grand Prix de France, having competed for ten years in the World Championship and having only recently been equipped full-time with official factory Aprilia machinery.

The last two years brought satisfaction of a different sort in a rewarding role as Aprilia´s main test rider and as a mentor to Jorge Lorenzo, as his young compatriot achieved back-toback quarter litre class World titles before his hitherto highly successful move up to MotoGP.

Now it is Debon´s turn to fight for the 250cc crown, against fellow front runners such as Mika Kallio, Marco Simoncelli, Mattia Pasini and Alvaro Bautista - and his French win in his 112th GP appearance has put him right in amongst it towards the top of the classification.

`It was my first win and I am very happy, because I worked hard to get it. At first it was tricky on the slick tyres because of the wet track, but when it dried out I was much better than my competitors,´ said the Lotus Aprilia man.

`It was a nicely timed win, and everyone in the team enjoyed it. In fact, I needed it,´ admitted Debon.

`The next part of the season is just around the corner and we need to keep pushing in the same direction. We are going to circuits where I think we can be competitive,´ concluded the 32 year-old.
