Capirossi doubtful for Donington with hand injuries
Loris Capirossi is a doubt for Donington after injuring his right hand during Sunday´s race at Catalunya.
After his experienced Italian rider Loris Capirossi suffered a dislocated fracture of the fifth metacarpal and a deep wound to the fifth finger on his right hand in the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya MotoGP race, Rizla Suzuki´s Team Manager Paul Denning spoke to motogp.com.
Capirossi had made a good start from twelfth and was up into eighth place by lap two, before disaster struck on the eleventh lap when he was hit from behind by Alex de Angelis, causing him to crash at high speed and injure his hand in the process. The Suzuki rider will not be able to ride in tomorrow´s test, but hopes to be back to fitness as soon as possible.
Denning commented, `On turn three, which is a virtually impossible place to pass, Loris was travelling at 160 km/h in the middle of the corner and then got hit really hard on the right side by De Angelis´ bike and that was it, a big crash.´
`Unfortunately the end result is a broken metacarpal in Loris´ right hand and it is a nasty break because it is near the knuckle. Dr Costa did a really good job to put it back in line but now the problem is the recovery, which is not so easy.´
`Loris wants to ride at Donington,´ continued Denning, `but with Donington and Assen so close together it is not easy to recover in that time. If he needs an operation then sure it would need longer, so lets wait and see.´
Meanwhile, Capirossi himself stated, `This is racing and sometimes things like this happen. Now I have to be careful because I have an injury and it will not be so easy for me to recover for the two races in one week. We will see, but I will certainly try to recover as quickly as I can.´
