Elias eleventh, brave Guintoli fourteenth
Sunday, 5 October 2008
Whilst Toni Elias just missed out on the top ten, his colleague Sylvain Guintoli battled through the pain barrier to finish in the points in Australia.
Having hurt himself in an incredible practice crash on Saturday Sylvain Guintoli rode through the pain with a damaged left shoulder and battled back from an early run-off to finish fourteenth at Phillip Island. His team-mate Toni Elias, meanwhile, was eleventh in the Australian MotoGP contest.
Toni Elias - eleventh
`It was really hard, we had a tyre problem. Then I didn´t start too well and this complicated the situation even more. After a few laps I got yesterday´s rhythm back and that allowed me to win back some time. If I had had one more lap I would have probably had the opportunity to overtake at least a couple of riders who were in front of me. It´s a pity. I will try to make it up in Malaysia on a track that I really like.´
Sylvain Guintoli - twelfth
`I had a lot of pain today and I didn´t know if I would finish the race. Then, on the second corner, I made a mistake due to some confusion on the track. I went wide and lost a lot of time. However, with Chris Vermeulen, who also went off track, we maintained a good rhythm gaining back a lot of time. I knew that on the final straight my Ducati was really fast and therefore I decided to attack on the last lap to gain a position. I made it and for how this weekend went I can consider myself satisfied with the final position.´
