Red Bull MotoGP Academy riders undertake Mediterranean mission

Three Red Bull MotoGP Academy riders were in action in Valencia last weekend, competing in the Mediterranean Championship 125cc event at the Spanish track. Danny Kent, Cameron Beaubier and JD Beach were the academy representatives as they prepared for the penultimate round of the CEV Spanish 125cc Championship.

As in the final MotoGP event the previous weekend, track conditions in Valencia were a mixed bag. There was only one dry session, the Saturday afternoon qualifying run, in which Kent set pole position with a time seven-tenths quicker than his previous personal best. Future World Championship entrant Beaubier took the second spot, whilst Beach placed fourteenth.

Kent and Beaubier led the race in the early going, but a gearbox problem ruled the Briton out of action on lap three. Beaubier was eventually denied victory by local rider Julian Miralles, whilst Beach moved up to sixth in a race which saw less than half the grid take the chequered flag.

The CEV event this weekend will pit the academy riders against the likes of World Championship stars Andrea Iannone and Randy Krummenacher, both podium finishers on the biggest 125cc stage.
