Folger uses Donington weekend to gain experience
Red Bull MotoGP Academy rider Jonas Folger gained experience at another circuit on the MotoGP calendar over the weekend, with a visit to Donington Park.
Young German rider Jonas Folger got more valuable experience under his belt at the UK´s Donington Park over the weekend, although it was not possible for him to build on his good performances in practice on Saturday and Sunday, as Monday´s race in the British 125cc Cup was cancelled due to high wind.
On board his single cylinder KTM machinery Folger adapted quickly to the tricky English circuit, notching up the best time in free practice on Saturday with an advantage of almost 1.5s over his nearest rival, as the riders battled against the wind. On Sunday the wind continued and rain made the conditions even more difficult, though Folger was unperturbed as he lapped third quickest in qualifying.
The Red Bull MotoGP Academy youngster was fastest in the Monday warm-up session, but with the subsequent cancelling of the 125cc race he was unable to test himself further due to the gusting wind.
Now in his third year at the Academy, Folger will this season compete as a wildcard in various European national 125cc races to build up his experience and knowledge of several tracks used in the World Championship. He has already raced this year at Le Mans, where he crashed out, and Mugello, where he came home in a highly creditable second place.
The next race date on Folger´s schedule will see him make an appearance on home territory, with a visit to Sachsenring on 22 June.
