Former Motocross champion Dobb explains MotoGP role
2001 Motocross World Champion Jamie Dobb runs through his role in MotoGP management and charity cycle excursions.
The career of a rider is comparatively fleeting, although once bitten by the bug a large percentage choose to prolong their relationship with the world of two wheels. 2001 Motocross World Champion Jamie Dobb is one such former competitor, currently working in the MotoGP World Championship as Monster Energy´s Sports Marketing Manager.
Dobb has moved on from the riding side of motorcycle competition to his new role, and now devotes his attention to the careers of three World Championship riders and their relationship with the popular energy drink.
`My Motocross World Championship linked me with Dorna (Dorna Sports S.L., MotoGP rights holders) and from there I just enjoyed the marketing side of things. It´s great to be part of MotoGP through Monster´s work with Kawasaki,´ explains Dobb of his new role, which he juggles with the management of individual riders.
`Obviously through Monster we handle the management side with John Hopkins and Anthony West as part of Kawasaki, and also Danny Webb in 125cc. We´re looking at getting more people on board, and hope that the riders we have bring Monster to the fore in the coming weeks.´
The Briton also uses his contacts, and the generous nature of the MotoGP paddock, to race money for his `Cycle of Wishes´ fund in conjunction with `Make-a-Wish´. It was by bicycle that he arrived at the Donington Park circuit, direct from Barcelona in a journey covering 1000 miles and spanning 10 days.
`We did a lap of the Catalunya circuit, then headed north through the Pyrenees. There were many ups and downs, but it was for a great cause,´ says Dobb, who was joined by five fellow cyclists on the journey.
