Gadea on top after morning deluge

A wet track in Assen upped the 125cc morning times by over 15 seconds in some cases, with Sergio Gadea proving the most adept on the tricky surface. The Bancaja Aspar rider recorded a 2´00.182 time in the first Friday morning session, two-tenths of a second quicker than second placed Michael Ranseder. His teammate and reigning World Champion Gabor Talmacsi was the only other rider within a second of Gadea´s marker.

None of the riders on the provisional front row featured in the top seven during the morning run. Bradley Smith was the highest placing of the foursome with the eighth fastest time, behind Andrea Iannone, series leader Mike di Meglio, Esteve Rabat and Donington racewinner Scott Redding.

Fastest in yesterday´s opening qualifying session, and as in Britain likely to confirm the provisional pole if conditions remain wet, Simone Corsi suffered a crash that curtailed his session to just ten laps. He was over four seconds down on Gadea´s time, in 25th place.

The second qualifying session takes place this afternoon, with the weather being the key to whether the riders focus on wet settings or an improvement in grid positions.
