Jarvis and Poncharal praise podium finisher Edwards
Tech 3 Yamaha manager Herve Poncharal and Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis have praised Colin Edwards, with Jarvis expressing his desire to retain the Texan´s services next year.
Colin Edwards´ dramatic comeback ride to snatch a second podium finish of the season on Saturday earned him significant plaudits from Tech 3 Yamaha chief Herve Poncharal and Yamaha Racing boss Lin Jarvis - and the 34 year-old rider´s performance will have done nothing to harm his negotiations to stay with his team next year.
After a first-lap setback which saw him relegated to the back of the pack as he was caught up behind crashing pair Valentino Rossi and Randy de Puniet, Edwards rode brilliantly to put himself into position to pip the unfortunate Nicky Hayden to the finishing line in third place.
Afterwards Jarvis told motogp.com, `It was a little bit of sweet revenge as you will remember when Nicky pipped him to victory when Colin made a mistake two years ago. It was great to see that performance after he got stopped behind Valentino, he put in a tremendous run and without that incident he may have been second. His form is really, really good, and he is having, in my opinion, his best year in MotoGP since joining Yamaha.´
When asked if Edwards´ contract renewal discussions were simply focussed on finding the money to retain the Texan rider, Jarvis replied, `Not as such. You need the whole thing, the team, the bike, the package, the crew chief. But money is important because Tech 3 don´t have a title sponsor at the moment and they have to run their business. But I am sure Tech 3 want to keep him and I´m sure he wants to stay, so the discussion is on a solid base.´
Meanwhile, Tech 3´s Poncharal said of Saturday´s result, `This is the second podium of the season after the one in Le Mans but I think this one was a lot more exciting and a lot stronger. In Le Mans due to Casey Stoner´s engine problem and a few other things we were on the podium, but this one was incredible because after the lap one incident with Valentino he restarted the race dead last but really quite far back and I think he made an amazing recovery.´
