Estoril racewinner Jorge Lorenzo was successfully operated on this afternoon in Barcelona, to treat the `arm pump´ condition that has plagued the Spaniard in recent weeks.

The operation went ahead at 3.30pm local time, less than 24 hours after the Fiat Yamaha rider´s memorable maiden victory in the premier class. Dr. Xavier Mir, head of arm surgery at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, made the initial diagnosis and oversaw the procedure.

Lorenzo only received treatment on his right forearm, with the muscle compression inside the limb loosened to relieve the loss of strength typical of the compartmental syndrome.

The all-clear for discharge from the hospital is expected in the next 24 hours. Lorenzo and Dr.Mir will give a press conference tomorrow at 1pm, explaining the reasons for the procedure and the expected results.
