Márquez examined in Barcelona
Dr. Xavier Mir and his medical team made a thorough check on the Repsol rider´s right leg
The Repsol rider, Marc Márquez, checked into the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus at 11am this morning for an examination of the injuries he suffered yesterday at the Malaysian circuit of Sepang.
Márquez fell towards the end of the first free practice session after being hit by another rider. Unluckily during the fall his right leg got trapped between the chassis and the rear wheel of his KTM, his team of mechanics took 20 minutes to remove the wheel and free him.
After a first check-up in the Clinica Mobile, the Repsol rider was transferred to the airport in Kuala Lumpur for a flight to Barcelona where he landed this morning. Márquez went directly to the USP Insitut Universitari Dexeus for a check-up directed by Dr. Xavier Mir so as to find the exact extent of the injury. Nine tests were needed to achieve this.
An NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) and a computerised axial tomography (CAT) allowed Dr. Mir to give a diagnosis for the Repsol rider.
Márquez will stay under observation during 24 hours with an intensive anti-inflammatory treatment and after this period of time, as long as he continues to improve, his leg will be immobilised and he will be released.
Dr. Xavier Mir
´After Marc Márquez checked in this morning we gave him a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and a CAT to evaluate the extent of the injury. These confirmed that he has a fracture on the growing cartílage on the tibia, at the height of his right ankle, and a fracture on the calcaneus of the same ankle. After having his leg trapped for so long he also has some grazes and bruising. He will stay in hospital for 24 hours and willl receive a treatment that will reduce the swelling on the ankle, and if all goes well tomorrow he can be released after immobilising the leg definitively.´Marc Márquez
´The fall yesterday was quite ugly, and although at the begining it seemed to be a slight injury my leg got trapped between the wheel and the chassis. This does not happen very often, but I was lucky that it was not any more serious. Last night I travelled to Barcelona and here they did what they had to do. I was able to sleep a little on the plane, and so it made the journey seem a little shorter, although during the flight I was in some discomfort. Now I am planning to recover as quickly as possible so that I can get back on my bike with the same desire as always.´
