Michelin men maintain perfect pole record

Despite not focusing their work specifically on qualifying rubber, Michelin have been unstoppable in Saturday afternoon sessions so far in 2008; a record that continued with Dani Pedrosa´s pole position in Le Mans.

Dani Pedrosa´s pole position in Le Mans maintained tyre manufacturer Michelin´s 100% record of Saturday top spots in 2008, with their third different rider. However, despite the excellent qualifying performances of the French rubber, Jean-Philippe Weber from Michelin has revealed that one-lap tyres have not been the big focus of their recent workload.

`The qualifiers were already working well last year, and we did some development in Jerez during the Official Test,´ noted Weber. I think that our rivals are working much more aggressively on this subject than us at the moment, and we´re now focusing on improving our race tyres.

Promising race pace on Friday and Saturday has come from poleman Pedrosa and Tech 3 Yamaha front row qualifier Colin Edwards, and Weber is confident that more Michelin riders can put their names into the hat to challenge for victory.

`Dani has been fast, Colin has been fast, and I hope that Jorge Lorenzo can be at the front, despite his injuries. What he is doing is an amazing job, and I think that he will also be up there.´
