Nieto could ride in Le Mans after collarbone surgery
Onde KTM 2000 rider to attempt comeback, less than two weeks after Shanghai crash.
Unable to participate in the Pramac Grand Prix of China after a collarbone fracture in Saturday´s qualifying session, Pablo Nieto is set to make an audacious attempt at a return in time for the upcoming round in Le Mans.
Onde 2000 KTM rider Nieto headed directly to Madrid and respected surgeon Dr. Angel Villamor for treatment of the injury, which involved the replacement of a metal plate inserted after a previous crash to best repair the new damage incurred.
Already beginning his rehabilitation process with exercise, ice, ultrasound and massage, Nieto is taking the race against time for his final participation in a French 125cc race extremely seriously.
`I am raring to go, and intend to do the impossible to be on the grid in Le Mans,´ stated the determined Spaniard. `I´ve regained a lot of mobility, and I have to extend my thanks to the medical team for being there on Sunday to operate as early as possible.´
For a medical perspective on Nieto´s involvement in the May 18th race, Dr. Villamor was clear about the 125cc veteran´s options.
`Pablo will definitely have to fight the pain as well as the other riders, but I have no worries at all about movement from the plate. To be clear; If Pablo was to crash in Le Mans then he would have the same chance of fracturing any other bone as a repeat fracture of his collarbone,´ explained the surgeon.
