Red Bull MotoGP Academy have tough time in Jerez

Participants in the CEV Buckler Spanish Championship this year, two members of the Red Bull MotoGP Academy were in action this past weekend at the Circuito de Jerez. Cameron Beaubier and Danny Kent were the regular representatives, joined by the youth initiative´s guest rider, Nelson Mayor.

The race was restarted after a four-rider crash on the opening lap, but from the restart the battle for victory began in earnest. In a race won by Red Bull MotoGP Rookies cup rider Luis Salom, the highest placing of the academy teenagers was Major, a competitor in this year´s competition for young talents. The French rider finished thirteenth, ahead of Kent by just a single place after the Briton made a series of errors that dropped him down from third and a potential podium finish.

Hit by a nasty bout of gastroenteritis, Beaubier was unable to participate in Friday´s opening practice sessions. When he finally found himself in good enough condition to ride on Saturday, the American impressed with the fifth fastest time in qualifying. However, his own first lap crash meant an early end to a late-starting weekend for Beaubier, along with a light burn and sprain to his foot.

Beaubier and Kent will continue their training ahead of the CEV Buckler´s next round, to be held on July 27th in Albacete.
