Sito Pons provides update on son Axel´s recovery from injuries
Following a nasty accident at Jerez in mid-June in the Spanish National Championship (CEV) Sito Pons´ son Axel has now been released from hospital following a series of operations.
After twenty days of medical care at the Institut Universitari Dexeus hospital in Barcelona, Axel Pons has been allowed to go home to continue his recovery from a heavy crash in Jerez in mid-June.
Having initially been treated at the Puerta del Mar hospital in Cadiz, close to Jerez, the young Pons was transferred to Barcelona shortly after his crash in a Spanish National Championship (CEV) race, in which he broke both of his legs and fractured his pelvis.
Pons made three wildcard appearances in the 125cc World Championship category this year under the watchful eye of his father Sito Pons, a former 250cc World title winner and the manager of the Jack & Jones WRB 125cc team, who spoke to motogp.com about his son´s recovery from his injuries at Assen last weekend.
`Axel´s mentality is very strong and he wants to get back on his motorcycle as soon as possible,´ said Sito Pons. `To be honest, it is a very hard time for him, a very hard time for me as a father and for his mother. But we are here to help him.´
`We will try to support him as soon as he is ready, because he is really committed to racing. I think he has good potential, he has only raced for three years and he has done really well. Now it is a matter of time to recover properly. It will be quite painful for him, but I think it three months time, something like that, he will be ready.´
