Looking past Casey Stoner´s Le Mans race result, Ducati´s Livio Suppo was full of praise for the Australian´s performance in France.

World Champion Casey Stoner on track at le Mans

He may have had no points to show for it at Le Mans, but Casey Stoner `proved to be the strongest rider out there´ according to Ducati Project Manager Livio Suppo. The Italian made the declaration after a difficult day for the team, who experienced engine problems with both Stoner and teammate Marco Melandri´s Desmosedici GP8s.

Stoner´s breakdown was identified as being due to a faulty component on Tuesday morning, something that will be replaced in time for the next round in Mugello. Although the race result did not bring a smile to the Ducati garage, the overall weekend performance still gave Suppo food for thought.

`Le Mans isn´t the best track for our bike. It´s a Yamaha circuit, and we saw that with them on the podium,´ noted the Ducati boss. `Casey was with Valentino (Rossi, racewinner and Fiat Yamaha factory rider) the whole weekend, so he did really well.´

Work continues on the Desmosedici GP8, with the engine receiving special attention aside from said faulty component.

We´re working on the bottom end; for sure it´s not a disaster because otherwise Casey wouldn´t do what he´s doing,´ explained Suppo when analysing the latest test workload.
