Talmacsi to undergo evaluation of scaphoid injury
A scaphoid injury picked up by Gabor Talmacsi in Indianapolis will be assessed this week.
One of the earliest fallers at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in practice for his first race stateside, Gabor Talmacsi had to ride the rest of the weekend with a fractured scaphoid adding to his difficulties in making up ground in the standings. The Hungarian will have the injury assessed this week, with the hope that the reigning 125cc World Champion will not need to go under the knife.
`Just finishing the race was important for me in terms of motivation, and now I have to evaluate my fitness with Doctor Costa and see if I need surgery or not,´ said Talmacsi after a praiseworthy fourteenth place at The Brickyard. `I want to thank the medical team for all their work this weekend, in addition to the team.´
Two points from a race in which his condition was clearly affected could prove useful for Talmacsi in the quest to retain his crown. The Bancaja Aspar rider will have a tough time catching series leader Mike di Meglio, but still has a chance of a second title before his departure for the 250cc category at the end of the year.
`Of course, this result is better than nothing. Things have got difficult, but we didn´t come all this way for nothing and the two points –although they seem insignificant- can always aid our cause in the championship,´ explained Talmacsi.
` I started well, but I knew that it was going to be a hard race after around five laps. I was having a tough time with the group, and on the slow corners it was very difficult to brake, causing me to lose my pace. From the beginning I had to use my legs when cornering, and my condition was suffering because of this.´
