Tough Albacete weekend for Academy bunch

The latest Spanish National Championship (CEV) outing at Albacete for the Red Bull MotoGP Academy riders over the weekend was a difficult one, for various reasons.

Cameron Beaubier finsihed 19th in the 125cc race won by Spaniard Alberto Moncayo, with the American Academy rider unable to get comfortable with the Castilla-La Mancha circuit throughout the weekend. Beaubier got away from 29th on the grid after a difficult qualifying session and despite a slight improvement in the Sunday morning warm-up he was unable to get close to the top ten during the race.

Danny Kent enjoyed a better time in qualifying, securing a tenth place start, and commenced the race in good shape, pushing up to seventh in the early running. However, the young Brit crashed out on lap two and will need tests to examine a possible finger fracture this week.

The third Academy representative JD Beach was unable to participate due to a bout of bronchitis. The Californian took part in the Red Bull Riders Cup in Indianapolis the previous weekend when not at 100% and his condition had not improved enough for him to race in Albacete.

The Red Bull MotoGP Academy boys will hope for more luck when they return to action on 9th November in the sixth CEV Buckler round of 2008 at Valencia.
