Team Toth provide new home for 250cc star Pasini

Team Toth provide new home for 250cc star Pasini

Italian star continues in the quarter-litre class with backing from Aprilia team.

Left out in the cold after the dissolution of the Polaris World Aprilia project, 2008 250cc Rookie of the Year Mattia Pasini looked to be heading from a trophy to atrophy as opportunities for this year were picked up by other riders.

Enter Team Toth Aprilia, the Hungary-based outfit who have previously powered podium pushes for Roberto Locatelli and Hector Barbera in the quarter-litre class. Pasini put pen to paper in early December at Aprilia´s Noale base, securing his involvement in the 2009 season as an expected title contender. The Italian had previously been discussing such a deal upon learning of his impending unemployment towards the end of last year.

Team Principal Imre Toth Sr., whose son Imre Toth will share a garage with Pasini, was present for the signing and has expressed his hopes for the upcoming season. He expects an Italo-Hungarian cooperation every bit as successful as during Locatelli´s memorable stint with the team and, with a factory-supported Aprilia and a proven racewinner combining, the possibility of a serious title push cannot be ruled out.

Pasini´s first race with the team will come on April 12th at Losail in Qatar, the scene of his maiden victory in the 250cc class last year.
