Bautista continues on top in southern Spain

Aspar rider continues scorching start to 2009 preseason with dominant display.

A sunny morning and a grey afternoon may have provided contrasting conditions for the 250cc and 125cc riders on track for a second day of testing in Jerez, but the one constant of the visit to southern Spain was the dominance of Alvaro Bautista. The Aspar rider was once again quickest in his first test of 2009, continuing his dominance from Monday.

Six-tenths of a second faster than on day one, Bautista´s quickest lap was a 1´43.673. That was almost enough to match Marco Simoncelli´s circuit record from last year, with the Italian still to debut in 2009 testing. Hiroshi Aoyama was second fastest on his second day with the Scot Racing Honda, over half a second down on Bautista. Gabor Talmacsi, Mike di Meglio, Thomas Luthi and Raffaele de Rosa also made their presence felt, whilst Hector Faubel had his first ride with the Thai Honda machine.

Also repeating his Monday heroics was Julian Simon, the quickest on track in the 125cc class. The Aspar newcomer had a fall at midday, but there was little that his rivals could do to knock him from the top spot. His 1´47.908 lap was nearly a second quicker than teammate Bradley Smith, the second fastest on Tuesday.

Testing in Jerez concludes on Wednesday.
