Racing Team Germany looking at 125cc project

Fledgling two-stroke outfit set to compete on two fronts in 2009.

Racing Team Germany, the new lower cylinder category Honda outfit set up by former 250cc rider Dirk Heidolf, are making adjustments to their previously announced project in the run-up to the 2009 season. Originally intended as an entirely 250cc-focused team, a World Championship pairing is now likely to become a split 125cc/250cc effort.

Heidolf was present at the recent Valencia test to watch 250cc newcomer Bastien Chesaux in action, and explained the direction that he expects the team to take ahead of the season’s start.

“We are looking at the option of another rider to accompany Bastien in 250cc, but we are more or less certain to run one rider in 250cc and one in 125cc,” said the German, believed to be targeting the incorporation of Jasper Iwema –previously linked with the Kiefer Racing team- for the smaller of the two-stroke classes.

”I think that the bikes in both the classes are good, and provide a good opportunity for young riders,” continued Heidolf. “Bastien has been testing and coming in to the garage smiling each time, so I think that the bike will be at a good level by the time that we get to the first race.”

Racing Team Germany had provisionally announced that Toni Wirsing would ride for them in 2009 after wild card appearances in the class last year, but the German has now been withdrawn from the lineup.
