Spanish chef tops 125cc project with Olive

Spanish chef tops 125cc project with Olive

125cc rider gets Derbi RSA for 2009 season as part of all-Spanish lineup.

Joan Olive has fallen on his feet in 2009, after looking doubtful for participation in the 125cc World Championship. The Spaniard has been picked up by Spanish chef Karlos Arguinano’s ambitious Derbi project, and will be using a factory RSA with which he will push for an elusive first Grand Prix victory.

“It has been a difficult winter, but in the end things have worked out all right,” said Olive at this week’s 125cc test in Valencia, at which he was a spectator alongside his new Team Manager.

“It will be the same team as last year, with whom I did a great job, and I think that if everything is working well then we can do something good. Now I’m excited about my first test and preparing for the season ahead.”

Arguiñano adds: “This is an ambitious and brave project, with three Spanish riders on the only Spanish bike in the World Championship. I’m a long time fan of bikes, and now I hope to have more fun as I get more closely involved. I’m sure that the project will turn out good!”

Olive will test alongside new teammates Efren Vazquez and Pol Espargaro in Estoril early next month.
