Terol and Corsi make 2009 test debuts at Valencia

Team Pons riders Nico Terol and Simone Corsi have made their first test appearances of the year, with a preseason outing at Valencia.

Absent from the first smaller class tests of the year in recent weeks, the 2008 125cc World Championship runner-up Simone Corsi and his team-mate Nico Terol have started their preseason testing schedule this week at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit.

For Terol, Monday - the first of two days on track - was a chance for him to finally test the Aprilia RSA with which he will compete in this year’s 125cc World Championship and even though the first session started later than planned due to overnight rain the Valencian rider was comfortable with his new machine right from the start.

”I really wanted to get on with it and try the bike out,” Terol commented. “We can’t make any real conclusions yet though as we have not ridden so much at this point. I really enjoyed it but there is still a lot of work to do. The times so far are not important because the conditions weren’t perfect but I’m satisfied with how it is going.”

Corsi was also getting used to a new set-up, though only in terms of team structure, working with his new crew chief Pietro Caprara. The young Italian rider had a crash at the end of Monday’s session but was still highly positive about the progression being made.

“Some of the technical staff are new but they are people who know how to do a great job. They are really experienced and I hope to learn from them this year,” Corsi stated. “Our aim at the moment is to get used to the bike again after three months off. We haven’t tried many changes with the bike and I had a crash near the end of the day on Monday, so we have to just keep making improvements.”
