Thirteen of the riders from the 2008 edition will return to the cup, alongside ten newly-selected riders, three with prior U.S. Rookies experience and one graduate of the Red Bull MotoGP Academy.

Of the returning riders, most of the attention will be focused on the likes of Sturla Fagerhaug, Daijiro Hiura and Mathew Scholtz, all racewinners in 2008.
