Beaubier busy preparing for debut season

Former Red Bull MotoGP Academy attendee Cameron Beaubier is busy preparing for his debut World Championship campaign.

As a former Red Bull MotoGP Academy rider and participant in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Cameron Beaubier is no stranger to the World Championship paddock and he is looking forward to the 2009 season with great expectation.

The young American is set to take his GP bow as a 125cc rookie this year having been hired to ride alongside a Marc Marquez in the Red Bull KTM team.

The teenage pair were testing together at Barcelona’s Montmeló circuit last week, with two of the leading riders in the single cylinder class, Jack & Jones Pons WRB’s Simone Corsi and Nico Terol, also in attendance.

Summarising his preseason thoughts in a brief interview with motogp.com, Beaubier stated, “It’s all been great and it’s very exciting waiting for the races and the start of the championship in Qatar. Testing has been going pretty well so far, I’m getting on well with my team and everybody who is part of this project.”

Referring to his new prototype KTM machinery and its differences compared to the Academy and Rookies Cup KTM bikes he has ridden in the past, Beaubier commented, “It’s a lot different in general and the chassis in particular is so different. But it’s getting better and I am getting a little bit more confident every time I ride it. We have been improving feeling with the rear in testing. I have been going stiffer and stiffer with the suspension and it’s getting a lot more comfortable.”

For such a young rider plying his trade thousands of miles from his native California the atmosphere at KTM and his relationship with his new team-mate are crucial to his well-being.

Beaubier is enjoying spending time with Marquez and is hoping to learn from the Spaniard along the way. He added, “Marc is cool and he is one of my friends now. We play Xbox together a lot when we can and it’s good fun. It’s really good to have help from him because he has Grand Prix experience and he was in my shoes last year. During the season I will spend most of the time in Spain and Switzerland in between races and I think it’s going to be a good time for me.”
