Barbera changes number for 2009

Barbera changes number for 2009

Spanish rider to run no.40 plate this season.

Pepe World Team rider Hector Barbera will adorn his Aprilia RSA bike with the number 40 for the upcoming 2009 campaign, part of a collaboration with one of Spain’s most popular radio stations.

The 250cc rider announced the number change on Thursday at his team’s official presentation, held at the Kinepolis cinema complex in Madrid. He was unveiled alongside teammate Axel Pons.

Explaining his collaboration with ‘Los 40 Principales’, Barbera said that the change of number and association with the station was “extra motivation. 40 is a beautiful number, and I’ll be hoping to count down from 40 to 1!”

The former 250cc racewinner will this weekend return to riding for the first time since a serious crash at the Japanese Grand Prix last year –one that left him missing the final rounds of the season with a back injury. After so much time away, the presentation made an emotional impact on the Spaniard.

“I’m really counting down to the first test in Portugal. Today is a big day for me, because just a few months ago I was in hospital unable to move, and now I am being presented by my new team.”
