Barberá leads the way on day two at Estoril

Barberá leads the way on day two at Estoril

Pepe World Pons WRB rider Hector Barberá continued his comeback from injury with a good performance in testing on Monday in Portugal.

At the Estoril circuit on day two of this week’s 250cc preseason test it was Spaniard Hector Barberá who topped the timesheets as he followed up on his good work on Sunday with the fastest Monday time.

Once again in excellent riding conditions close to the Atlantic coast the 250cc riders enjoyed a good day of work, with Barberá quickly regaining confidence as he comes back from the serious back injury which cut short his 2008 championship after a crash in Japan.

Barberá registered a best effort of 1’41.113 on the 69th of his 77 Monday laps, putting him just 0.006s ahead of second fastest participant Álvaro Bautista.

Bautista looked in much better shape than on Sunday, meanwhile, moving up the timesheets from tenth yesterday to second place. Marco Simoncelli, the 250cc World Champion, fastest on day one, was third quickest today, just 0.026s off Barberá’s pace.

The top five was rounded off by Gabor Talmacsi and Mike di Meglio, whilst sixth fastest rider Alex Debon also went round within a second of Barberá’s best.

The Estoril smaller classes test concludes after a third and final day on Tuesday.
