Simón maintains control on Portuguese soil

Returning to the 125cc category this season Julian Simón has been been on good form over the winter and he was fastest rider again on day two at the Estoril test.

Having also lapped fastest on the opening day of the 125cc test at Estoril on Sunday, Bancaja Aspar’s Julian Simón repeated that trick at the Portuguese circuit on Monday.

Indeed, such was Simón’s pace that his timesheet-topping best effort of 1’45.046s put him way out ahead of his rivals with no-one else able to get within a second of his time.

Simón’s compatriot Pol Espargaró lapped second fastest, the young Belson Aprilia rider going round 1.1s slower than the pace-setting Aspar rider.

Andrea Iannone was the third quickest rider, whilst Simón’s team-mate Bradley Smith was the most prolific participant of the day, lapping 85 times in his typically hard-working fashion and ending up fourth at the end of the day.

Sandro Cortese, Joan Olive, Sergio Gadea, Jonas Folger, Scott Redding and Esteve Rabat all featured in the top ten, with a significant proportion of the 125cc field for 2009 in attendance.

The Estoril test visit will be wrapped up after the third and final day on Tuesday.
