Simoncelli Tuesday’s quickest, Barberá fastest overall

At a windy Estoril track on Tuesday the 250cc test concluded with World Champion Marco Simoncelli quickest on the last day, whilst Hector Barberá’s best Monday time was not beaten.

The 250cc World title holder Marco Simoncelli appears to be shaping up nicely for the start of his championship defence, completing the last day of testing at Estoril on Tuesday as the fastest man on track.

Hector Barberá’s Monday best effort 1’41.113 was not bettered on the final day due to windy conditions slowing the riders down at the Portuguese venue, which is located close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Metis Gilera’s Simoncelli registered a decent 1’41.245 effort, however, to make him Tuesday’s top performer, ahead of Thai Honda’s Ratthapark Wilairot (1’41.518) and Scot Racing Team’s Hiroshi Aoyama (1’41.525) also in the top three. Spaniards Hector Faubel and Barberá completed the leading five on the timesheet.

The likes of Roberto Locatelli, Raffaele de Rosa, Tom Luthi, Alex Debon and Karel Abraham completed the top ten, in the absence of Mapfre Aspar riders Alvaro Bautista and Mike di Meglio who left on Monday evening.

The riders will reconvene at the end of next week at Jerez for three days of work (25th-27th March) at the Official MotoGP Test.
