Wilairot feeling comfortable after Estoril visit

The last day of testing in Portugal was a positive experience for the Thai Honda PTT SAG team, as Ratthapark Wilairot ended up second on the timesheet.

In attendance for the last two of three test days for the smaller classes at Estoril, Ratthapark Wilairot left the Portuguese venue in high spirits having lapped second quickest on the final day.

Wilairot’s best Tuesday effort of 1’41.517 left him just behind the fastest rider on the final day, Marco Simoncelli (1’41.245), and his pace also compared well to that of Hector Barberá - whose Monday best time of 1’41.113 was the fastest of the 250cc test.

Indeed, in windy conditions on Tuesday Wilairot’s time was a second quicker than his best lap time at last year’s GP visit to Portugal – a good sign as he seeks to improve his competitiveness this year.

The Thai Honda PTT SAG rider tested different settings for the chassis in order to make his Honda machine more stable on fast corners, putting in plenty of kilometers ahead of his third full World Championship campaign.

Assessing his position with less than a month to go before the start of the season the Thai rider commented, “I feel very comfortable with my Honda RSW this year, much better than last year. I am more relaxed on the bike and the feelings are better, I also feel safer and this is very important to get good results. This is the third year with my team and now more than ever I feel that I can fight against the best riders.”

“I am very happy with these test results, we did a great job and now we hope to get good results in the first race of the year in Qatar.”

Wilairot’s next test outing will be at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain next week (25th-27th March) at the Official MotoGP Test.
